Reverse Engineering is the process of obtaining a geometric CAD model from 3D scan points cloud which is acquired by scanning an existing part. 3D virtual models can be completely generated through reverse engineering. There are various applications of reverse engineering such as in manufacturing, industrial design, jewellery reproduction and design, development and inspection of parts, etc.., A physical model is taken and scanned to get point cloud. This data is processed in different stages to finally get the CAD data. Dimensions, features, surfaces, etc.., can be reconstructed for the component using Reverse Engineering.
