Country :: India
Authors :: G. U. Patil || A. C. Mitra
Page No. :: 01-09

Driving vehicles and hand-held power tools produce mechanical vibrations and are transmitted to the human hand affects the hand grip and instability. In this study, the measurement of vibration transmissibility while executing holding activities of hand is represented by a four and five degree of freedom human Hand Arm System (HAS) through mass-spring-damper system model. The proposed model, investigated biodynamic reaction properties of HAS at different parts of hand joints. The HAS Model simulated in MATLAB-SIMULINK software to analyse the displacement and acceleration. The vibration insulators have been proposed as grippers on handle of machine tools for minimize the vibration transmission through hand contact. The simulation output graph of HAS with vibration insulator..............

Title :: Estimation of Wear and Friction Characteristics of Al Alloys for Cold Forging: Review
Country :: India
Authors :: R. V. Gosavi || A. A. Keste
Page No. :: 10-14

Forging process is one of the most important metal forming processes. Wear in cold forging and hot forging has become wide considerable and research factor in industries to recognize it. Products made by hot forging are pinions, crankshafts, rolls etc. while smaller components usually less than 50 kg such as screws, nuts and small jut6;nction details etc are made by cold forging. So to understand tribological aspects in forging process such as wear, friction and lubrication is important. The rotation of punch on work-piece produces some amount of material wear in punch and work-piece. Wear properties of metal and alloy have significant effect on serviceability and durability on machine component. To understand material behaviour and effect of chemical composition and temperature during forging, numerical and experimental investigation is important for cold forging. This paper focuses on tribological investigation to estimate wear and friction characteristics of aluminium alloy during cold forging process.

Title :: Silt Erosion Effects on Pump Running in Turbine mode
Country :: India
Authors :: R. R. Tandel || B. P. Makhania || S. V. Jain || R. N. Patel
Page No. :: 15-20

Silt erosion in hydraulic turbines is a complex phenomenon. It can not only reduce the efficiency but also creates wear, fatigue failure, vibration and finally results in reduction in life of turbines. Pump as Turbine (PAT) is a very good alternative when used for low capacity hydro power plants because of its low cost. In the current study, experiments were executed to study the effects of silt erosion on the performance of PAT. The effects of particular silt size (700-1000 micron) with different concentrations (0.5%, 0.75% and 1%) were studied for different time intervals (18, 36 and 54 hours). The results of silt laden water were compared with the results of clean water condition in non-dimensional form. The silt size and its concentration were found to be the important parameters affecting the material removal from the surface and the efficiency of PAT.

Country :: India
Authors :: A. B. Shinde || S. N. Sapali || Y. V. Sonone

Jaggery processing is one of the traditional agro-based industries mainly found in rural parts of India. Most of jaggery processing units employ open earth pan furnaces for juice concentration with sugarcane bagasse as a primary fuel. In conventional jaggery plants, wet bagasse is spread over the ground and dried under sunlight. This bagasse drying technique is time-consuming, space consuming and labour intensive. In the rainy season, conventional bagasse drying is impracticable due to unavailability of intense sunlight. Also use of alternative fuels such as wood, automotive tyres, petroleum products etc. for the operation of jaggery plant is uneconomical and non-eco-friendly.............

In today's global market, introducing new product quickly and cost effectively is a major competitive advantage. With rapid advancement in automation technology increase in efficient design and manufacturing process is necessary. Manufacturers around the world are adopting automated machinery by replacing the traditional manually operated machinery. Almost every component has hundreds of different types and configurations which need to be produced at large quantity. Hence the use of ‗traditional design methods' seems inefficient due to lot of manual work and product development time which ultimately increases cost. Therefore, a new system known as ‗Parametric Design System' was introduced to meet the increasing demand by carrying computer assisted parametric design............

Authors :: P. P. More || M.D. Jaybhaye
Page No. :: 44-48

Wear particle characterization is important feature to get the overview of machine condition monitoring as most of the failure occurs due to wear debris saturation. Ferrography is one of the important techniques used to separate wear particles from lubricating oil and examining them under bi-chromatic microscope. The objective of this paper is to calculate the wear severity index of lubricating oil samples using direct reading ferrography and to study the wear trend using analytical ferrography. This date can be used to diagnose the fault and decide oil maintenance policy.

Poly methyl methacrylate (PMMA) is the material used in various optical industries having high degree of surface finish. In this paper, experimental and simulation study has been carried out on CNC machine to obtain fine surface finish on the component. During the actual experimentation it was observed that the cutting parameters along with vibration affecting the surface finish. For the analysis experimental parameters were considered such as feed rate, depth of cut and speed. The response parameters are surface roughness and acceleration in Z-direction. In ANN, with the help of MATLAB the training of Neural Network has been done to gain the optimum solution. The predicted results of ANN for surface roughness are almost matching with experimental results whereas the predicted results of acceleration in Z-direction vary with very small margin from experimental values.

Title :: A Review Study on Vertical axis Wind Turbines(lift and drag type) for Optimizing the Aerodynamic and Structural Performance
Country :: India
Authors :: Vishwajeet Kharade || Kunal Jagtap
Page No. :: 61-65

Vertical axis wind turbines (VAWT) are omnidirectional in nature. Lift type work on the conditions of lift produced on blades. Drag type harness power from wind by the effect of drag force. VAWTs require no yaw mechanism to continuously orient towards the wind direction. This work deals with the review study of vertical axis lift and drag type rotors and identifying various performance parameters to increase the power performance. It is observed that helical rotor has self starting capacity at low wind speeds. The egg beater shape has better stress bearing capacity as compared to other shapes, but generated insufficient torque for self starting nature.............
